EcoLexicon is a terminological resource developed by the LexiCon Research Group at the University of Granada as a result of the following research projects:
- PuertoTerm: Coastal Engineering: knowledge structure and generation of terminological resources (BFF2003-04720) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (2003-2006).
- MarcoCosta: Multilingual knowledge frames in the integrated management of coastal areas (PO6-HUM-01489), funded by the Andalusian Regional Government (2006-2009).
- Ecosistema: Single information space for frame-based environmental data and thesaurus (FFI2008-06080.C03-01/FILO), funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation (2008-2011).
EcoLexicon represents the conceptual structure of the specialized domain of the Environment in the form of a visual thesaurus. This thesaurus has been elaborated according to the theoretical premises of Frame-Based Terminology. Consequently, each concept appears in the context of a specialized frame that highlights its relation to other concepts, and makes explicit its designations in English, Spanish, German, French, Russian, and Greek. Through the convergence of conceptual, linguistic and graphical information, EcoLexicon meets the needs of different users groups (people interested in the Environment, students, translators, technical writers, etc.).
